Caption This #15

"Nando, I'd like a Chum Shop Earth T-Shirt!"

From Rae: "Can I sit at the booth while you are gone?"

From Chris: *From the waitress* Does this mean I don't get a tip!!???!!!

Training: Went back up to SNAP yesterday and did a short 2 miles on the dreadmill. My arch is feeling good but my legs just ached something awful. I extended my workout with another mile on the elipticle machine. Tomorrow I may do another light jog and skip the supports just to see if my legs feel different. This is not the time to be experimenting and it is driving me cuckoo. Been holding a bunch of water lately too, my thumbs were really swollen this morning. I know I have been sounding grumpy lately but have no fear. I'm seeing this thing through.

Hi Jeff,
I love the pictures in the back ground!!!
I have been having problems with my hands swelling at the end of my long miles lately. Either is has been to much salt, or need some electrolytes ?{sp}

Really? Swelling??? I didn't notice anyswelling with my runs (except formy knee injury). I hope it all works out.

What is everyone doing for food and water on long runs?

I don't think running has anything to do with the swelling. It has to be something in my diet. I can't think of any other reason. I think it could just be that I need to be drinking more water. This mornings observation was just a weird shock.

So are you trying to run with the Powerade and Cliff Shots to prepare for the race?

I don't really like Powerade but I bought some so that I can acclimate my body to it.

Keep on any kind of training you can do, as long as the blood is flowing, you'll be fine.

Kate,

In the past I tried gel packs and they upset my stomach. I used sports beans during and leading up to the Des Moines half. They provided a nice lift every 35-40 minutes. Recently I have discovered "Shark Bites" not sure if they are made by cliff or not. Anyway I decided to try these as they contain potasium which I thought might be good as I had some cramping in the calves toward the end of Des Moines. So far I have only used them on long bike rides and they seems to work and not upset anything.

Chris,

I know my pace will be off from where I was, but I have come to terms with that. I have the big picture is in site and that's finishing and I will.

I can't wait to see Nando again.
Re your arches -- are you remembering to stretch when you are done working out? Be sure to do the one where you put your foot up on a support rail that's at a 45-degree angle and then lean forward to stretch your achilles -- that one may help your arches too.

And as a last resort, look back at your setup for the Dam To Dam -- which shoes and socks were you wearing then? Should you try them again, even though they've got miles on them?
