There and Back Again

Decided to try a new route earlier today. This was a nice scenic route along the Des Moines river. This route somewhat parallels the Dam to Dam course. Temps were in the low 70's. At first I was not certain how far I planned to go. Part way through I decided to run out at least 6 miles before turning around. The first half of my run went well, although it was a bit different jogging in a new location. I missed having familiar landmarks. I turned around at 6.3 miles.

On the way back the fact that I was not carrying a water bottle became a factor, as my calves began to cramp up. Although I ran the first half in a little over an hour, it took nearly an hour and a half to make the return.

Below is a map I created on Map My Run. You can view a satelite version of the map by clicking view full>satelite Mileage markers can also be toggled off and on.

Looks like a cool area to run. We've got some canals and rivers around here that have paths...though I've never run on them.

So todays title...Are you a LOTR fan?

Yes I am. I felt it was an appropriate title because the ruote was a stick and not a loop.
